Owen Dyer, owner of confectionArt in York, Maine, lives with James Lacey, his life partner of sixteen years and their 15 year old black lab mix named Hannah, their six year old Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix named Lucy, and their three-legged 6 year old Orange Tabby, aptly named Eileen. It is in here in their home that they create their magic with flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and chocalate.

They started the full licensed home-based business with some trepidation in 2000 when Owen was laid off from a visual merchandising position of ten years with a major Massachusetts based company that same year. "We haven't looked back!" says both Owen and Jim. "It is probably the scariest and most exciting thing that has ever happened to us and we wouldn't change how any of it happened."

"Jim does all of the baking and he helps me with some sculpting and molding projects and does lots of deliveries with me. Jim is an integral part of confectionArt and without him, I could not do it. Besides being life partners, he is right there with me in business as well. We are best friends, which is the most important part of our success. we really have fun doing this together. We are polar opposites of sorts and I think we keep each other grounded... and we laugh a lot! You have to when you are together 24/7 and I wouldn't have it any other way! Together we are quite a team."

When they are not busy designing cakes or doing shows, they spend their leisure time with family and close friends, walking their dogs, and watching old movies. "We lead a relatively quiet life together here on the beautiful coast of Southern Maine."
